The Market Report and Calendar

Please keep in mind that the Market is new. It will take time and your support in order to flourish and grow. There are over 35 farmer's markets that have "sprouted" within the last 6 months in St Louis City and County and surrounding areas. We are competing with other communities to bring farm fresh produce to our Ellisville Market. Our farmer's are working hard through various weather conditions, pests, agricultural legislation, health department regulations and other small farm logistics to grow and bring food to our market.  Our farmer's do their very best to provide quality produce, usually just picked that day. Please show your appreciation and support and thank the farmer's for all they do.

Anticipated produce for July 22

Just picked, locally grown summer produce is beginning to come in....rain or shine the market is open

As of Wednesday, July 21, I am getting reports from the farm vendor's that fingerling potatoes, cucumbers, sweet onions, eggplant, yellow squash, zucchini, sweet corn, peaches, blackberries, plums and TOMATOES of all kinds will be among the produce for the market this week. We've had some great produce coming into the market this month. Look for more warm weather crops soon. Local honey, eggs, organic olive oil, herbs, plants, bulbs, a variety of amazing baked goods and breads, jams and jellies, along with other local handmade, home crafted and home grown items are also available.

The farmers are reporting that they anticipate a variety of produce to be available through out the summer. If all goes according to plan we can expect our first harvest of summer prooduce within the next few weeks including heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, burpless cucumbers, green beans, purple beans, lima beans, okra, potatoes, peppers, chard, kale, carrots, wild blackberries, turnips and a variety of greens.

We will try to post on this site a weekly update of what we expect for Thursday's market.

Face Painting and Balloon Sculptures with Becca - Check out the photo's from week #5 market as Becca transformed the little sprouts into exotic butterflies, flowers, zebras and wild cats. On some week's kid's can get painted and also paint a market banner (we have paint shirts), taste fresh picked market produce and enjoy the festivities in our kid's tent.

Build a Bug with Laurel  and friends - Kid's can create friendly, fun critters, creatures and crawly things to take home. Little sprouts can let their creative juices flow and have fun re-creating or imagining what kinds of friendly bugs live in our gardens and backyards.

Pottery on the wheel with David - David Warmer was a real hit at the kid's market area last year. He has returned with his pottery wheel and interacts with the kid's creating bowls, plates, vases, mugs and such. Kid's get to use playdough along side and get a little hands on with David...fun is had by all!

Children's market activities will vary from week to week. We do have paint shirts to slip over kid's for weeks we do "messy" projects. If you have extra shirts to donate, please bring them to the kid's area. We are always looking for donations of items to use in the kid's area, especially arts and crafts type items like clay pots, planters, beads, yarn and paint brushes. I will put a list of more specific items in coming weeks.
